What is a HVAC Technician?

A HVAC Technician is someone who repairs, installs and maintains heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. They usually have a certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

What qualifications are required to become a HVAC Technician?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required to become a HVAC Technician.

2. There are typically two years of training that must be completed in order to become a certified technician, and many technicians may also hold certification from professional organizations such as the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

3. Many technicians work in an apprenticeship program where they receive on-the-job training before becoming fully licensed professionals.

4. In most cases, basic math skills and knowledge of mechanical principles are necessary for being successful working with HVAC systems; however, some companies may prefer applicants who have prior experience using specific software programs or hardware devices related to heating and cooling technologies.

5. The ability to read English well enough to understand technical manuals and other documentation pertaining thereto is often considered an important qualification by employers
