A HVAC technician is a person who installs, repairs, or maintains heating and cooling systems in residential and commercial buildings. They may also work on appliances such as air conditioners or furnaces. A typical career path for someone pursuing a HVAC technician certification includes completing an apprenticeship program followed by years of experience working in the field.
A formal degree in HVAC technology is typically required, as well as experience working with air conditioning and heating systems. Some employers may also require certification from the National Mechanical Code Foundation or American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
The skills required to become a HVAC Technician include familiarity with tools and equipment used in the field, knowledge of heating and cooling systems, ability to communicate effectively with others in the workplace, skill working independently as well as collaborating on projects.
