What is a HVAC Technician?

A HVAC technician is someone who installs, maintains and repairs heating and cooling systems in homes or businesses. They may work on a single unit, such as an air conditioning unit, or they might be responsible for maintaining multiple units throughout a building. A typical career path for a HVAC technician includes completing an apprenticeship program and then working their way up the ladder until they reach specialist certification.

What qualifications are required to become a HVAC Technician?

1. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required to become a HVAC Technician.

2. Applicants must have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to work independently as well as part cooperative teams during projects.

3. Basic math abilities are necessary, along with knowledge in trigonometry, algebra II, and geometry concepts such as area and perimeter calculations.
