What is a HVAC Technician?

A HVAC technician is a professional who installs, repairs and maintains heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. They may also work on other related mechanical or electrical projects. A typical career for a HVAC technician includes working with various types of equipment such as fans, compressors and filters. Some technicians may specialize in one type of system over another, while others might be generalists with experience in many different areas. Many technicians complete an accredited technical training program before starting their careers.

What qualifications are required to become a HVAC Technician?

1. A valid technician certification from an accredited organization, such as the National Board of Examiners for HVAC and Mechanical Trades or State boards

2. At least 2 years experience in a related field

3. Knowledge of standard operating procedures for specific brands and makes of equipment

4. Ability to read blueprints and understand technical drawings

5. Strong work ethic

What are the skills required to become a HVAC Technician?
