What is a HVAC Technician?

A HVAC technician is a tradesperson who repairs, installs, and maintains heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems. A typical career path for a HVAC technician includes working as an apprentice under experienced technicians before gaining full certification. After acquiring the necessary skills and experience, many technicians work their way up to management positions within large companies or government entities responsible for overseeing all aspects of HVAC operations.

What qualifications are required to become a HVAC Technician?

1. A high school diploma or GED is required.

2. Certification as a HVAC Technician from an accredited certification body is desirable, but not mandatory.

3. Experience in the repair and installation of heating, cooling and ventilation systems is preferred, although training will be provided to those who are new to the field.

4. Excellent problem solving skills are essential for success as a HVAC technician; patience also plays a key role in this occupation because repairs may take time depending on severity of issue involved .

5.. Work knowledge of commonly used software tools such as thermal imaging cameras (TICs), duct assessment programs (DAPs) etc., can come in handy during diagnosis and repairs

What are the skills required to become a HVAC Technician?

1. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems in a building.

2. Familiarity with HVAC equipment, tools, techniques and procedures.

3. Ability to read blueprints or drawings accurately and work independently as needed to solve problems on site.

4. Strong problem solving skills; ability to think outside the box when confronted with unusual situations or configurations involving HVAC equipment/systems installations (ie: working on an L-shaped room).
