What is a Hydraulic Mechanic?

A hydraulic mechanic is a person who repairs and maintains hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, hoses, motors and controllers. They may also work on other mechanical equipment that uses hydraulics.

What qualifications are required to become a Hydraulic Mechanic?

1. A degree in engineering, hydraulics or another related field is required.

2. Must be able to read and understand schematics and diagrams of hydraulic systems.

3. Experience with hand tools (elevators, pumps) is necessary for many positions within the trade; some require certification as a Journeyman Mechanic or Master Technician in Hydraulic Engineering/Mechanics).

4. Familiarity with computer-aided design software (CAD) would also be beneficial for certain mechanical engineering positions involving CAD drafting capabilities (i..e., project managers).

5. Excellent problem solving skills are essential, along with knowledge of principles involved in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
