What is a Hydraulic Mechanic?

A hydraulic mechanic is a person who repairs and maintains hydraulic systems, such as pumps, valves, lines and hoses. They may also work on vehicles that use hydraulics as their primary means of propulsion or braking.

What qualifications are required to become a Hydraulic Mechanic?

1. The appropriate licensing or certification is required, such as a journeyman's certificate from the National Mechanical Contractors Association (NMCA).

2. Experience in hydraulics and mechanical engineering is essential, along with knowledge of mechanics, pneumatics and thermodynamics.

3. Excellent problem-solving skills are needed to troubleshoot hydraulic systems quickly and efficiently.

4. Hydraulic Mechanic training includes hands-on experience repairing broken equipment and diagnosing malfunctions on complex machines using test instruments and computersized tools/systems identification software programs like Siemens PLM System 7 or Autodesk Inventor 11e+.
