What is a Hydraulic Mechanic?

A hydraulic mechanic is a technician who repairs, adjusts and maintains mechanical systems using hydraulics. These systems include machines that move materials or liquids, such as pumps and valves. A hydraulic mechanic must have knowledge of engineering principles and be able to work with complex machinery. They may also need experience in repairing other types of mechanical systems.

What qualifications are required to become a Hydraulic Mechanic?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Some mechanical experience is needed, either in a factory setting or through on-the-job training.

3. Must have basic knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics principles to be successful as a mechanic specializing in these areas of machinery repair/maintenance work.

4 Knowledge of safety equipment and techniques essential for repairing hydraulic systems safely are also important skills for the Hydraulic Mechanic position; certification may be required by some employers (e.g., OSHA).
