What is a Instrument Technician?

An Instrument Technician is a technician who repairs, replaces and calibrates instruments used in various scientific and industrial applications. They may also be responsible for maintaining instrumentation by performing preventive maintenance procedures or troubleshooting malfunctions. Instrument Technicians typically have at least an associate's degree in science, technology or engineering.

What qualifications are required to become a Instrument Technician?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required

2. Previous experience with mechanics, instruments and calibration equipment is a plus

3. Knowledge of common electrical wiring systems is helpful

4. Valid safety certification such as OSHA 10-hour General Industry Standard (GIS) or ANSI/ISO Z359 Safety Management System Certification may be desired

5. Instrument technicians usually have at least 2 years of hands-on experience repairing and calibrating mechanical, electronic measuring devices
