What is a Instrument Technician?

Instrument technicians are responsible for the maintenance and repair of instruments used in various fields such as aviation, marine navigation, meteorology, industrial process control or radiation protection. Instrument technician typically have a college degree in engineering with experience working on instrumentation systems. They may also possess certification from organizations like ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). In order to be an effective instrument technician they must be able to understand complex technical drawings and troubleshooting manuals while being skilled at using tools and equipment necessary for repairing/maintaining these systems.

What qualifications are required to become a Instrument Technician?

1. A minimum of an instrument technician diploma or certificate is required

2. Instrument technicians must have excellent observational and problem solving skills

3. They often need to be able to read, understand and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams

4. Excellent manual dexterity is a requirement as they will frequently work with tools in their hands

5. The ability to stay calm under pressure is also important

What are the skills required to become a Instrument Technician?

1. Skill in using hands and arms to manipulate objects

2. Knowledge of instruments, how they work and how to maintain them

3. Thorough understanding of electronics principles including Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's laws, amplification etc., as well as basic knowledge of electronic circuits

4. Familiarity with measuring equipment such as gauges, micrometers and oscilloscopes
