What is a Marine Diesel Mechanic?

A Marine Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing marine diesel engines. They may also be required to operate and maintain the engine systems. This position requires a high level of technical knowledge in both mechanics and engineering, as well as proficiency in English. In addition, this individual must have excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

What qualifications are required to become a Marine Diesel Mechanic?

1.A minimum of two years experience as a diesel mechanic is required to become a Marine Diesel Mechanic.

2. The technician must have excellent knowledge in diesel mechanics, engine repair and troubleshooting techniques.

3. Experience with marine engines is also desirable, as are skills in shipboard maintenance and diagnostics procedures.

4 .The Marine Diesel Technician undergoes rigorous training that covers all aspects of the job including safety protocols and standards for workmanship on board vessels operated by the United States Navy or Coast Guard fleets.<br /><br />5 .The ability to read schematics accurately and perform repairs quickly under pressure are essential traits for success as a Marine Diesel Technician.<br /><strong>

A minimum of 2 years experience repairing/troubleshootingdiesel engines & other mechanical systems aboard ships<br />Good understanding of diesel mechanics principles <br />Familiarity with marine propulsion systems (ships) desired
