What is a Mechanical Fitter?

A Mechanical Fitter is someone who fits mechanical parts together. They may work in a factory, or on a construction site.

What qualifications are required to become a Mechanical Fitter?

1. A mechanical fitter must have a minimum of an apprenticeship in engineering or mechanics.

2. They must be able to read, understand and work with technical drawings and specifications.

3. They need to be good at problem solving and working independently as well as being team oriented.

4. The fitter should also have experience installing mechanical systems such as pumps, motors, valves etc..

5. Lastly the mechanic should possess certification from organizations such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or Canadian Association of Mechanical Engineers (CAMEC).

What are the skills required to become a Mechanical Fitter?

- Strong understanding of mechanics and engineering principles

- Excellent problem solving skills

- Experience working with tools and machines in a manufacturing environment

- Knowledge of welding, fabricating, machining and other metalworking processes
