What is a Mechanical Technician?

A Mechanical Technician is someone who assembles and repairs machines. They may work inside or outside of a factory, depending on the type of machine they are repairing. Mechanical Technicians typically have an associate's degree in mechanical engineering or another technical discipline related to machinery repair. Many employers also require certification from one of several organizations, such as the National Association for Manufacturing Technology (NAMT).

What qualifications are required to become a Mechanical Technician?

1. A good understanding of math and science;

2. Ability to work independently;

3. Experience in the mechanical field or a related area is preferred but not required;

4. Good communication skills, including being able to read and understand drawings/ schematics ;

5. Valid driver's license

What are the skills required to become a Mechanical Technician?

1. Knowledge of basic principles and concepts in mechanics

2. Ability to read, interpret diagrams, schematics and specifications

3. Experience using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers etc
