What is a Mechanical Technician?

A Mechanical Technician is a skilled technician who repairs, maintains and operates machines. They may work in factories, production lines or other industrial settings. Their job requires them to have knowledge of mechanics and electronics as well as the ability to troubleshoot problems quickly. A Mechanical Technician typically has a high school diploma or equivalent, although some employers may require certification or experience specific to their field.

What qualifications are required to become a Mechanical Technician?

A. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

B. Certification through the National Mechanical Technician Education Foundation (NMTEF) is recommended but not required to become a mechanical technician.

C. In order to be employed as a mechanic, experience and/or education in mechanics may also be beneficial.

D. The ability to read and understand engineering drawings is essential for many entry-level positions in the field of mechanical technology, particularly if working on machinery or equipment that has been designed by others engineers./E The ability to work independently with little supervision is also important for those pursuing careers as mechanics./F possessing good problem solving skills are often necessary traits for success as an engineer-dependent tradesman such as a machinist
