What is a Medical Gas Technician?

A Medical Gas Technician is a person who specializes in using medical gases, including but not limited to: nitrous oxide (N2O), helium (He), carbon dioxide(CO2), and oxygen (O2). A Medical Gas Technician typically operates industrial gas systems or provides support for critical care units. They are responsible for monitoring the composition of medical gases used in hospitals and performing maintenance on these systems.

What qualifications are required to become a Medical Gas Technician?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Experience in the medical field, specifically with gas treatment and delivery systems is desired.

3. The ability to read and understand detailed schematics of equipment is highly beneficial.

4. Must be able to work independently as well as team player; have excellent communication skills are a must, especially when working with patients or other technicians on scene during emergencies situations.

5.. Certification from an accredited certification program such as National Registry of Medical Gas Technicians (NRMT) may be desirable
