A quantity surveyor is someone who assesses the quantities of materials and products that will be required for a project. They use their knowledge of mathematics, engineering, and surveying to help determine how much material needs to be purchased or produced. This information can then help save money on the project overall.
The qualifications required to become a quantity surveyor vary depending on the country or state in which you reside. In general, though, most employers require that you have at least an undergraduate degree in engineering or construction management and four years of experience working as a professional engineer. Additionally, many states also require licensure if you wish to work as a quantity surveyor.
1. Strong communication and problem solving skills
2. Experience working in a construction or engineering environment
3. Knowledge of surveying techniques, including GPS technology
4. Ability to analyze data and identify trends
