What is a Welding QC?

A Welding QC is a quality control specialist who ensures the welding process meets or exceeds industry standards. They may inspect welds for proper fusion, size and composition, as well as look for defects such as cracks or voids.

What qualifications are required to become a Welding QC?

1. A welding QC should have a background in metallurgy and engineering.

2. The welding QC must be able to identify problems with welds and make appropriate repairs or corrections.

3. The Welding QC should be familiar with the applicable codes and standards for welding, including those set forth by ASME, AWS, ANSI/AWS-18.0M-2009 etc..

4. They need to be able to analyze weld defects using optical inspection techniques such as microscopy or scanning electron microscope (SEM).

5 .The Welding QC needs good problem solving skills and knowledge of arc fusion technology

What are the skills required to become a Welding QC?

a. Knowledge of welding and metal fabrication processes

b. Experience in quality control for welds

c. Certification as a Welder Quality Control Inspector (WQCI) or similar certification from an accredited organization

d. Skill in interpretation of electronic test results and inspection reports

e. Understanding of the principles behind defect analysis
