What is a Civil Engineer?

A civil engineer is a professional who specializes in the design and construction of infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, airports, water systems and power plants. They also work on projects that improve the quality of life for people by providing them with new housing or schools.

What qualifications are required to become a Civil Engineer?

1. A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from a accredited college or university is required.

2. Civil engineers must have at least five years of experience in the field, which can be obtained through working as a professional engineer, consulting engineer, or teaching assistant.

3. They must also pass the Professional Engineering Exam (PEE) and obtain membership with either the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) or National Association of Professional Engineers (NAPE).

4. In addition to their technical expertise, civil engineers are often asked to provide leadership and managerial skills when overseeing projects; this may require an MBA degree or equivalent training/experience in business administration fields such as marketing, finance, etc..

5. Due to the complex nature of many modern civil engineering projects – involving both design and construction phases – some licensure requirements vary by state but typically include passing an Applied Physics Test and completing relevant coursework within engineering disciplines such as mechanics-thermodynamics-fluids dynamics|mechanics- thermodynamics - fluids dynamics
