The ability to diagram designs both manually and with computer-aided drafting. Good team working and communication skills. Good time management skills. A professional architect is a person who designs and creates structures, sites or environments. Architects typically work with clients to come up with ideas for new buildings or renovations, as well as helping plan projects from start to finish. They often have degrees in architecture and may also hold certifications such as the LEED certification offered by the United States Green Building Council.
1. A degree in architecture is required, but there are no specific prerequisites for the program.
2. Architects must have a strong sense of design and be able to communicate their ideas effectively through drawings and models.
3. In addition, architects typically need experience working with both software programs used in drafting designs (such as AutoCAD or Adobe Photoshop), as well as construction documents prepared using official building codes such as ACI 318 or ASCE 7th edition standards.
