What is a Staff Nurse?

A Staff Nurse is a registered nurse who typically works in an acute care setting. They may work in one or more areas of nursing, such as medical/surgical, critical care, oncology and psychiatry. A Staff Nurse assists the RN with providing quality patient care by performing duties such as wound management, assisting patients with transfers to other departments or facilities and monitoring vital signs.

What qualifications are required to become a Staff Nurse?

1. A diploma or degree in nursing from a recognized college or university.

2. One year of experience as an RN, preferably in a hospital setting

3. Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the state where you plan to work

4. Good patient care skills and knowledge of medical terminology

5. Ability to read, write, and comprehend average English
