Locally based social networks can also be usedto search for Staff Members that match specific requirements suchas language skills or experience with certain types of tourism。 3 . Most hotels in Iceland rely on locals to staff their properties, but there are a few international hotel chains that also employ foreign workers. When looking for hotel staff from overseas, it is important to note the type of visa that each individual needs and how long they will be able to work in Iceland.
As of January 1st, 2014 all foreigners working in the hospitality industry must have a Work Visa if they do not have an Icelandic resident spouse or child who can sponsor them. The maximum length of stay for any foreigner employed as ahotel worker varies depending on which visa category they fall into- Short Term (less than 3 months), Medium Term (3-6 months) or Longterm (more than 6months). Unless otherwise specified by law, most employers require employees hold either a Short Term or Medium term work permit regardless of whether their contract lasts three months or six months.
